Ideal for consumers interested in improving their diet with pecans
It’s harvest season in America’s pecan belt, and pundits are predicting another healthy crop this fall, following last year’s record haul. Just in time for harvest season, the National Pecan Shellers Association has unveiled a new brochure designed to help health-conscious people improve their diets with pecans. Pecans. So Good. So Good for You. spotlights the numerous health-benefits of a pecan-rich diet. It includes several healthy recipes, plus tips for buying and storing pecans and suggestions for including pecans in your favorite dishes.
The brochure is filled with facts about the health benefits of pecans, including:
- The latest research from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) which shows pecans are the most antioxidant-rich tree nut;
- Findings from a health study published in the Journal of Nutrition which suggests eating a handful of pecans each day may help lower cholesterol levels; and
- Information about unsaturated fat in pecans, which may help lower the risk of heart disease.
“Public awareness on the health benefits of pecans is on the rise,” said NPSA Executive Director Vickie Mabry. “This new brochure will help consumers who want to learn more about the nutritional value of pecans and how to cook with them.”
